About this module
This course has been developed to provide general practitioners and prescribers of prescription opioids to adults, with the skills, tools and knowledge to help maximise patient benefits and minimise the potential harms.
Learning outcomes
After completion of this course, you will:
- Understand the dangers of long-term use and misuse of prescription opioids in adults
- Utilise decision-making tools to determine when and how to prescribe and deprescribe prescription opioids in adults
- Assess when your patient is in trouble, including recognising red flags for dependence and diversion in adults
- Confidently engage in difficult conversations with adult patients around the dangers of opioid use, and about not prescribing or deprescribing.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
This module is CPD approved for 1 Educational Activity hours with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) (Activity No. 416675) and CPD accredited with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM). It is CPD endorsed by the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP).
Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate that includes the number of CPD hours awarded. If you are a RACGP or ACRRM member and your membership number is associated with your user account, you will be accredited with these CPD hours automatically.
